Garden B.A.S.S. Week 4 – Sweep It Up!

By NATALIE KAEBISCH

Whether you’re out in the garden or tackling the housework, bending, sweeping and vacuuming are part of daily life. If they’re starting to feel sore, awkward or more tiring than they should, it’s often a sign your hips and spine aren’t sharing the load as well as they could.

The good news? A few simple tweaks to your technique can make a real difference.

In this week’s Garden B.A.S.S session, we’ll focus on building strength and control where it counts. You’ll practise engaging your core and hinging from the hips so your legs can take on more of the workload (they’re built for it, after all). When the effort is shared properly, everyday tasks feel smoother, steadier and far less taxing.

Watch the video, and then scroll down for some extra tips and insights from Natalie to help you get even more out of your practice.

BEST TECHNIQUE FOR BEND & SWEEP

The Bend and Sweep B.A.S.S. is all about working smarter, not harder.

The key? Engage your core and hinge from your hips so your legs and glutes can do the heavy lifting. When you bend well through the hips, you allow the whole spine to move smoothly and share the load — instead of overworking your lower back or shoulders.

Think of it as teamwork within your body. And we love a good team effort.

WHY THIS HELPS

When your body moves as a coordinated unit:

  • Everyday tasks feel easier and more efficient

  • There’s less unnecessary strain on your back and joints

  • Your balance and control improve

  • You can keep going for longer without fatiguing

  • You build confidence in your movement

Small changes in technique can make a big difference over time.

What to do this week

  • Practise the 2-minute B.A.S.S. daily

  • When you’re sweeping at home or in the garden, pause and reset:

👉 Bend from the hips
👉 Engage your core

Simple. Practical. Effective.

Let’s keep you moving well — and feeling good while you do it.

Physiocise TRAVELS

We love seeing the adventures our clients get up to outside of class.

Each term we feature photos of our clients doing physiocise exercises in the real world. Some are taking a table stretch in Peru, others are doing lunges in their backyard. It can be anywhere, anytime!

Make sure you send us any of your own ‘Physiocise Travels’ photos. and we will feature them in our quarterly newsletter.
