PhD. The University of Sydney M.Research, M.H.Sc (Sports Physio), MACP Sports Title Holder, B.App.Sc(phys), APAM

Kate graduated from the University of Sydney, later completing her Masters in Sports Physio, and then being awarded the prestigious Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) Sports Title Holder. She completed a Master of Research in 2019 using the Physiocise program as the basis of her research, and completed her PhD in 2024 at the University of Sydney, unravelling low back pain resilience.

Kate wrote six papers as part of her PhD, which described a novel approach to low back pain and focused on the positive things people can do when they have chronic pain. She has a passion for empowering people to manage their pain, by helping them to see the strengths they already have and building on those strengths for positive outcomes. Kate has a particular interest in encouraging healthy lifestyles, such as helping people achieve optimal sleep and physical activity as part of their pain management.

Kate has passed her 20th anniversary here at Physiocise, but she has worked widely outside our program as well. She was the Team Physiotherapist for the NSW Rhythmic Gymnastics for several years and has written and lectured extensively in this area for the APA. As a long-term classical dancer herself, she has great insight and interest in dance injuries. As well as working with the Australian Ballet she was instrumental in founding the Dance Network of Sports Physiotherapy Australia. She still finds time to attend her own dance classes which fills her soul with happiness!

She is brilliant with lumbopelvic pain and has a keen interest in thoracic and neck problems and has completed a year-long post graduate course with renowned Canadian Therapist Dr Linda Joy Lee. She is also passionate about exploring the role the brain takes in changing pain. Her skill is walking in the shoes of her patients and guiding them along the path to wellness.

Kate is the research co-ordinator for the Physiocise team, keeping the team up to date with the very latest in relevant new papers related to our work. She loves digging into research to answer difficult questions or support the fabulous things that we do at here Physiocise.

She has three children Mia, Angus and Isla and somehow manages to juggle her busy home life with her devotion for teaching at Physiocise and her passion for learning and extending herself.
