DO YOU CONSUME ENOUGH PROTEIN?

Protein in our diet is extremely important. It plays a crucial role in building and maintaining muscle mass and strength. It is the primary building block for muscle tissue, helping to repair and grow muscles after exercise. When we engage in physical activities, especially resistance training, our muscles experience micro-tears. Protein, which is broken down into amino acids, is essential for repairing these tears and promoting muscle growth.

Protein not only supports muscle growth but also aids in recovery after exercise and injury.  Additionally, protein contributes to maintaining bone health, which is crucial for supporting our muscles and overall physical function.

Consuming adequate protein is particularly important for muscle preservation as we age. Research suggests that older adults may need higher protein intake to maintain muscle mass and strength, with recommendations ranging from 1.2 to 1.6 grams per kilogram of ideal body weight daily. For younger individuals engaged in strength training, a protein intake of about 1.6 grams per kilogram of body weight per day may be optimal for muscle growth. These figures are estimates, and each person's needs might vary slightly.

Ensuring sufficient protein intake, combined with resistance exercise, is key to building muscle, improving strength, and maintaining long-term physical independence and metabolic health.

SO HOT RIGHT NOW!

Some of our physiotherapists attended the ‘So Hot Right Now’ conference at the Opera House this month. It was a fantastic day filled with women presenting the latest research and trends aimed at best supporting women through the perimenopausal and menopausal years. This has provided us with plenty of food for thought and opened up new avenues for our inquisitive minds to explore.

We are diligently working behind the scenes to ensure our clients receive the best possible care during this stage of their lives. If you are interested in learning more, be sure to check in with your physiotherapist for an update. There are some wonderful services dedicated to menopause that we can guide you to.

WEDDING CELEBRATION
