SPRING Holiday CLASSES

KATE’S AWARD

Kate recently attended and presented at the 19th International Forum for Back and Neck Pain Research in Primary Care in Davos, Switzerland.

We are so thrilled that Kate also received the award for “Best ECR Poster Presentation”. As we all know, she is a brilliant presenter from all those years of teaching classes, as well as being a world-class researcher.

Happily, Kate also got to enjoy some beautiful sights of Switzerland after the last 4 years of constant research and family juggling.

If you’d like to know more about Kate, or book a consult, check out her bio here.

GEOFF’s RUN

Geoff Ashley last completed the City2Surf over 10 years ago and pulled up with sore knees afterwards. This year was different.

After taking classes for the past few years, he decided to give it another try... and here is Geoff crossing the line on August 10. Making it look easy. What a legend.

“As I mentioned last week, I feel that the run was really helped by my Physiocise classes that assisted with overall flexibility and muscle strength. I also prepared with some runs that built up a bit in the days leading up to the day. And while the rain pelted down, I felt everyone was totally into it so that the overall vibe negated the rain by far.

I did the run in 1 hour 43 minutes 13 secs, and of the category of 70 – 74 years olds, I came 83rd of the 216 who finished.”

Congratulations Geoff. The weather certainly wasn’t kind on the day, but it makes it even more impressive! He also mentioned his knees weren’t sore, but his glutes and quads were sore the next day. Exactly the muscles we’d expect and celebrate!

Looking forward to starting Term 4?

PHYSIOCISE TRAVELS

Stay strong, even while you travel! Our clients and team visit some incredible places. Check out our #physiocisetravels series for Term 3 featuring destinations from around the globe. Don’t forget to send us any pictures from your next trip! Click on the images to view them in full size. 👇🏼

Anna-Louise Bouvier (our Founder)
Hiking above Ortesie in the Dolomites, Italy.
“Incredible mountains to take time for a buttock stretch and a plank. We were lucky with the weather”.

Chris Daly (Advanced Floppy class)
Enjoying a table stretch with the help of a rubbish bin! Chris was in the middle of a motorcycle road trip to Longreach and Winton from Sydney – 4,500km in two weeks. I’m sure there were plenty of other stretching stops along the way!

Judith Burgess (Advanced Floppy class)
Doing her Physiocise strength and stretches, looking at the beautiful view among the palm trees in the Lamu Islands, Kenya.

Sue Mavin (our Physio)
from her recent holiday to the Sunshine Coast. Balancing on top of Mt Ngungun and stretching in a rainforest -  Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve, in the Glasshouse Mountains.

Carolyn Isaacs (Floppy class)
Enjoying the view during some lunges and a Tree pose at Swiftcurrent Lake, East Glacier National Park, Montana (near the Canadian border). What a view.

Marilyn Rosenbaum (Flippy Puls class)
Taking some time for balance practice before she went wine tasting! Winmark Winery, Hunter Valley. What a beautiful spot.

Sam Peacock (our Physio)
Enjoying a break during the school holidays in New Zealand in the snow. Such a wonderful place to recharge!

Elena Bartos (Advanced Floppy class)
Using the top of the hill for a side plank and tree pose - ‘the only tree above the tree line” Mt Hood, Oregan USA.

Natalie Kaebisch (our Physio)
Recently did a 400km road bike challenge through the Northern Territory. With huge, big blue skies, rough roads and the odd stop to take in the view, she did an impressive 100km/day for 4 days. Well done Nat. You are always pushing the boundaries to find new challenges and we are in awe.

Robyn Coleman (Strong Knees class)
“Here i am doing some lunges in Cape Peron, Shark Bay in Western Australia. I love the blood red earth against the bright blue sky. Plus the Indian ocean was like heaven for doing my aquarobics exercises”.

 Amy Kennedy (our Physio)
A recent family holiday to Greece. Her husband, Yannis, was born in Greece, so they had a fun time exploring some sights, having a family race in ancient stadiums and balancing.

We love seeing our clients’ adventures, whilst helping them stay active.

LONG COVID

One of our wonderful physios, Amy Kennedy, has been working at the St Vincent’s Long Covid Clinic for the past few years, as well as caring for her ever-growing client list at Physiocise. She has managed to stay very busy!

Amy is now bringing this specialist expertise to our clinics through private consultations at both Willoughby and Moore Park.

Long Covid can present in many ways – from fatigue, breathlessness, cognitive fatigue, cardiac changes, post-exercise malaise... the list goes on. Recovery from long COVID is extremely individualised, depending on the symptoms each person experiences.

Physiotherapy plays a vital role in recovery by gradually restoring the function each client needs and preventing further deconditioning. Pacing strategies to reduce post-exertional symptom flare-ups are something Amy has done extensive work on with patients since Long Covid emerged, as finding the right challenge for each person is one of the keys to recovery.

Amy works at both locations, so if you or anyone you know suffers from Long Covid, you will be in expert hands with her.
