Bathroom B.A.S.S. Week 10 - Ready for Real Life
by Sally neild
The more your body keeps these 4 movement ingredients, the easier everyday life feels.
START WITH THE 4 S’S
This week is about the 4 S’s that help your body move well through everyday life:
Straight — good posture and alignment while moving
Stable — balance and control through the body
Stretched — enough movement through the joints and muscles
Strong — enough strength to handle the task well
Most movements need a combination of all four.
When one starts dropping off, your body compensates — and daily jobs often start feeling harder than they used to.
WHY THIS MATTERS
To lift grandchildren, garden, walk safely on uneven ground, carry shopping, make the bed, play golf, or get off the floor, your body needs these movement ingredients working together.
If mobility drops off, you stiffen and bend poorly.
If stability drops off, you wobble or grip too much.
If strength drops off, tasks fatigue you faster.
If posture drops off, the body collapses into less efficient movement patterns.
Many people notice the result before they recognise the cause.
THE QUICK MOVEMENT CHECK
Before a task, quickly ask:
Am I reasonably:
Straight?
Stable?
Stretched?
Strong?
You do not need perfection.
You just need enough of the right ingredients for the job in front of you.
BUILD IT INTO YOUR DAY
Use the bathroom as your daily movement reset.
After brushing your teeth or washing your hands, pause for a quick check-in before walking away.
Realign.
Reboot.
Go.
The B.A.S.S exercises all train parts of these 4 S’s. Over the winter holidays, keep one favourite B.A.S.S in your routine so your body stays ready for real life.
THIS WEEK’S REMINDER
Before you move, just remember - Straight. Stable. Go.
