STRONGER TOGETHER
A Flower Power Hippie theme filled the room at our Christmas party last December. After many PCR and rapid tests to keep us all safe, we all shared in peace and love as we all know and appreciate what a luxury it is to attend events with the people you love right now.

Supporting Josie Wild, Supporting Women and Children In Need
In addition to working at Physiocise, Josie also does integral work for The Daisy Centre, which is operated by Mary's House. The Daisy Centre provides a wide range of services to women experiencing domestic and family violence. It is a physical and virtual safe place offering support, information, advice and therapeutic services to women as they navigate their way through the stages of the journey out of an abusive relationship.
Josie offers weekly classes to women who are referred by social workers, counsellors, and psychologists connected to and external to Mary’s House. The classes are called Connect. She runs these through her organisation Olive Tree Heatlh. Classes aim to address the chronic physical and emotional health conditions experienced by women who have survived intimate partner abuse. Through exercise-based physiotherapy which is underpinned by neuroscience and trauma-sensitive principles, women are invited into a space where they always have a choice as they develop strategies to nurture their physical and emotional health in ways that are important to them.
“LOVED what Josie talked about re connection with our bodies. It felt very nurturing. (Connect) has really got me strongly on the journey of re-connection between my head and my body. I have had to live in my head - minimization / denial to be safe. I don’t have to do that now so I need to begin this journey back to my body.”
Mary’s House recently had their annual charity fundraising ball which some our physiocise team attended. We are very proud to support such a worthwhile cause, and to support Josie for her life altering treatment she provides these women.
“It is a privilege to be working with and alongside the women who attend Connect. Their resilience, courage and wisdom is truly inspiring. One of the aspects I love most is seeing friendships that grow within the group and the sharing of valuable insights, support and encouragement that occurs very naturally. I also love seeing women taking time to reconnect or possibly connect for the first time in years with their body and in doing so, taking steps to realise greater healing in their lives.” Josie says.
BEACH B.A.S.S.
Our clients love it because it is easy to remember. We love it because our clients are doing it regularly. And we all love it because it makes such a difference to their confidence and strength.
The B.A.S.S is a fantastic 2-minute daily routine we created during the first lockdown in 2020 to keep our current class clients active! Four exercises (Balance | Agility | Strength | Stretching). 30 seconds each, once a day in 10-week cycles.
This term we are at the Beach (watch the video with the sound on...its’s great!) We also have one for the Office, the Kitchen, the Bush and even the Bathroom!
Sometimes life gets in the way and it is impossible to commit to classes. Sign up to our weekly BASS, and you can still keep your brain and body Balanced, Agile, Strong and Stretched!
THE LATEST IN NECK PAIN
Last week we had a great morning presenting to the Australian College of Exercise and Sports Physicians (ACESP). Anna-Louise & Sally talked about the application of the latest evidence in the assessment and rehabilitation of neck pain to clinical practice.
Many thanks to Sally Neild & Anna-Louise for their knowledgeable insights and deep clinical experience. Also thanks to Melissa Partington who also helped with the structure of the session and to Kate Roberts for her meticulous research and evidence review. As always, an excellent team effort from the Physiocise Sydney crew!
Also thank you to Dr Louise Tulloh for her excellent advice and wise counsel.
IS YOUR HEALTH SPAN AS LONG AS YOUR LIFE SPAN?
You know about lifespans, but what about healthspans?
We're living longer but what's the best way to ensure optimum health lasts as long you age? This is where the concept of healthspan comes in. How do you maximise the years of healthy life as you age? What tips or habits can you do now to help build up your health span? Anna-Louise Bouvier is the founder of Physiocise and adjunct fellow at Macquarie University.

BE PART OF SOME INCREDIBLE WALKING RESEARCH
Do you get back pain? And want to walk more? This trial could be for you.
The WalkBack Trial is new research from Macquarie University and is funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) led by Professor Mark Hancock. We know Mark well from his work researching the effectiveness of Physiocise a few years ago! The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of an individualised and progressive walking and education program prescribed by a physiotherapist in preventing the recurrence of low back pain. They are looking for volunteers from across Australia who have experienced low back pain in the last 6 months and are interested in undertaking a walking program to help prevent future episodes and improve associated general health.
