WHAT’S NEW

TOGETHER AGAIN! As we come out of lockdown and back in to the studio for classes, this term is full of renewed freedoms. Classes will remain hybrid into the future so that as travel starts or as you get busier, we can stay together while you do classes in person or remotely online. Our client of the term Rosalie, has managed to continue with her two classes a week – all the way from New York! So why not stay together and strong this summer with our holiday classes over January!

TEA TIME TOGETHER

After months of not being allowed to be in the same room as each other, and a little exhausted from working hard, both at home and at Physiocise throughout lockdown, our team could finally catch up again. We were so excited to be at a beautiful venue with our beautiful team…this time in celebration of Kate, who has been with Physiocise for 20 years! This celebration has been delayed a few times due to multiple lockdowns, but finally, we made it! What a treat it was.

CLIENT OF THE TERM

I turn 74 in January and don’t have any pain. It’s so remarkable and I think it’s because of Physiocise.
— Rosalie, Client of the Term

Meet Rosalie, one of our fabulous clients who first appeared at Physiocise in 2015 after a friend of hers suggested it. At the time, Rosalie was getting knee pain any time she tried to exercise, but the other big reason she sought help was that she was getting discomfort and feeling the impact of Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) in the everyday activities of her life. She had been dealing with this for around 10 years. Rosalie says “I don’t think women are talking enough about prolapse. So I’m more than comfortable talking about it to help raise awareness.”

“I recall my little granddaughter would come up and give me a big hug around my tummy – and the pressure of her hug would make my prolapse instantly worse. I couldn’t jump, I couldn’t dance, and if I tried to exercise my prolapse would get worse. It really started to feel like a disability that was stopping my function in daily life.”

Rosalie had seen 4 different gynaecologist’s, who recommended she needed a surgical repair for her Grade 4 POP. The last gynaecologist she saw suggested she could try using a pessary and see a Women’s Health physiotherapist. She had seen one before, and was given some exercises to do, but “it’s not as good as being in a class – with the constant reminders of how to do them. With home exercises - you don’t know if you’re doing it right, so you don’t bother doing it as much. That’s why I continue now with classes twice a week (and three times a week in lockdown because I wasn’t travelling!).”

Here I am in New York and can continue to do classes – even though I’m on the other side of the world. Physiocise is a long-term fix. I am doing stuff I could not do 6 years ago – that to me is amazing.

When Rosalie started Physiocise with some individual consultations and progressed to our Foundations classes. She found it was the constant reminders of daily life habits that made such a big difference. “6 years later - occasionally if I wake with a sore back, I do my exercises, and it fixes it. You guys are brilliant. You are so knowledgeable and lovely teachers – always giving the why and showing us new research – and this constant reinforcement is so helpful. The information is delivered with warmth – whoever does your staff recruitment is amazing!”

“The pessary supported me enough to be able to do the exercises effectively – so the combination of the pessary, the pelvic floor exercises, but importantly that was combined with the care and feedback of how to do the exercises from my physio in class and in consultations.”

Rosalie is currently in New York for 3 months after welcoming her youngest granddaughter 5 weeks ago. Now that classes are being offered online since the onset of COVID she can continue with her Core Burn and Strong Bones classes from there.

“I can chase and run after my grandchildren. I would never have dreamt of being able to do that. When I flew to the USA, I was late for my connecting flight and had to sprint through the airport to catch my plane… I could not have done that before Physiocise.”

“In my last check-up with my gynaecologist – they said my prolapse has improved and is now only a stage 2 prolapse. Who would have thought that could happen at my age? I’m very committed to my health, but the weekly classes really remind me to do the pelvic floor exercises and it makes such a difference. It makes me more compliant. I can now lift 7kg weights even with a prolapse and it’s still improving….and I get no knee pain.”

“Here I am in New York and can continue to do classes – even though I’m on the other side of the world. Physiocise is a long-term fix. I am doing stuff I could not do 6 years ago – that to me is amazing.”

Physiocise Women’s Health Program

Our team of pelvic floor experts have the latest assessment techniques and Ultrasound equipment to assess and treat any pelvic floor issues you might have.

No need to feel embarrassed. The floor is a series of muscles. Like many other muscles in our body, it can develop problems. Leakage, pain and prolapse are much more common than you think and can be vastly improved with a combination of the right exercise and advice.

Start with a Women’s Health Consultation.

STRONG BONES ASSESSMENT DAY

We know that osteoporosis and osteopenia are a growing problem, and our Strong Bones team are determined to help keep providing the exercise and the education that together give our Physiocise family (and their friends and family) the best chance we can of preventing and treating this silent condition.

The fabulous Josie Wild is putting on two days of Strong Bones assessments on Thursday 20 January and Friday 21 January at Willoughby so that you can get ready to join the new Strong Bones 1 class in Term 1 next year.

Existing clients will need a 45-minute Strong Bones specific appointment, and we would love you to let your friends know that an initial 75-minute appointment is also available for them.

FLOOR IN ACTION

Sometimes it is hard to visualise exactly where and how the pelvic floor works. To help you, our expert Women’s Health physio Dimity Thompson uses our Real-time Ultrasound to show exactly what is happening.

You can watch the pelvic floor on the Ultrasound screen as you breathe. See what happens when you hold your breath, and get some individual feedback about the strength of activation.

If you need help with your core, a session with the Real-Time Ultrasound really helps - book a session with Dimity on Wednesday, 19 January at Moore Park or Thursday, 20 January at Willoughby.

BOOSTER UPDATE

We are so happy to have some of you back in the studio for class. As we continue to navigate through the post lockdown world – we are committed to keeping our staff and clients safe. If you are getting a booster vaccination, don’t forget to update us with your recent date of vaccination for our records.

Either email us your vaccination certificate;
